Job Description

Type:

Part-time / Locum (8 hours per month)

Duration:

1-year contract (Renewable)

Rate:

$87 – $130 per hour (Commensurate with experience and professional registration)

Assessment and Management :

• Comprehensive clinical swallowing assessment for all residents with known or suspected dysphagia, including bedside clinical swallowing evaluation.

• Referral for and support of instrumental swallowing assessments (video fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) or fibre optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) to external providers e.g. hospitals.

• Development, implementation, and regular review of individualized dysphagia management plans for all at-risk residents.

• Prescription of food texture modifications and fluid thickening in full accordance with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) framework.

• Mealtime observation, environmental assessment, and feeding strategy recommendations.

• Liaison with the nursing home’s dietitian regarding texture-modified diets, nutritional adequacy, and oral intake monitoring.

• Provision of input into oral hygiene protocols and their relationship to aspiration risk management.

• Review and updating of swallowing management plans in response to clinical changes, acute illness, or changes in medical status

Communication Assessment and Intervention:

• Formal and informal assessment of residents with acquired communication disorders, including aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, dysphonia, and cognitive communication difficulties.

• Delivery of evidence-based individualized speech-language therapy intervention programmes.

• Cognitive-communication assessment and intervention for residents with dementia, acquired brain injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions.

• Collaboration with nursing staff and care teams to implement total communication strategies and communication-friendly environments.

Requirement:

Be a registered Speech-Language Therapist or practice with the Allied Health Professions Act (Singapore).
Hold a valid practicing certificate.
Have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience delivering care in a nursing home, long-term care, or equivalent residential settings
