Job Description

Laboratory Assistant

The personnel will report to the Head of Department (HOD)/Science in

the day-to-day running of the science laboratories and perform any other

duties as and when assigned by the HOD/Science and School Leaders.

The personnel shall be competent to perform the following:

1. Support Science teachers with Science lessons and programmes.

This would include, but not limited to, assisting to prepare, clearing

and cleaning of apparatus.

2. Set up visual aids and info-tech equipment used in the Science

Department.

3. Manipulate and maintain visual aids, info-tech equipment including

computers, notebooks, data loggers and sensors used in the

Science Department.

4. Maintain general cleanliness, operational functions and safety of the

Science Laboratories (including maintain bench tops, taps and

fittings, equipment, contents of cupboards and lockers).

5. Replace broken glassware from stock and be responsible for all

equipment used in the teaching of science.

6. Prepare chemical solutions and replenish stock.

7. Inspect, unpack and check apparatus and chemicals (including

overhauling when necessary).

8. Maintain an inventory of stock and keep a stock book and breakage

record to indicate necessary replacements.

9. Check and replenish the First Aid Kits in the science laboratories.

10. Assist Administration Manager in stock take and checking of safety

and medical supplies.

11. Support the school’s Green & Environmental Stainability

Initiative – Greenova (which consists of i) level-wide programmes &

project work and ii) specific programmes for selected students) in

the initiative’s related administrative tasks, logistics and house-

keeping matters

12. Support teachers in the use of Eco-Pond, Eco-Garden and

Hydroponics cum Aeroponics systems.

13. Maintain the school’s biological garden (light manual chores).

14. Stock taking of Math resources in Math Rooms at the end of the

year.
