Job Description

1.The WSHO shall brief the Waste Infrastructure Operations and Management Division

 

(WIOMD) installation’s Safety Committee quarterly on updates on any incidences and new

 

rules and regulations from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

 

2. Advise the S.O. of the respective Installations on the measures to be taken in the interest of

 

the safety and health of the persons employed in the Installations.

 

3. Inspect the Installations to determine whether there is any machinery, plant, equipment,

 

appliance or process or any description of manual labour used in each of the Installations

 

which is of such a nature that is liable to cause risk of bodily injury to any person working or

 

employed within the Installations.

 

4. Discuss the findings of his inspection with the plant supervisor in the Installations who is in

 

charge of the machinery, plant, equipment, appliance, process or manual labour, and report

 

such findings to the S.O. of the respective Installations.

 

5. Assist the plant supervisor in investigating into any accident which takes place within the

 

Installations arising from the use of such machinery, plant, equipment, appliance or manual

 

labour, and check the plant supervisor’s report and the action taken to remove the causes of

 

the accident.

 

6. Investigate into every fatal accident and dangerous occurrence which takes place within the

 

Installations and any industrial disease contacted in the Installations.

 

7. Organise campaigns, training courses, competitions, contests and other activities which will

 

develop and maintain the interest of the person employed in the Installations in establishing

 

safe and healthy working conditions based on agreed schedule with the respective

 

Installations.

 

8. Conduct safety orientation briefings to the in-house term contractors and ad-hoc contractors

 

before they are allowed to work in the Installations.

 

9. In the interest of the safety and health of the persons employed therein advise the S.O. of the

 

respective Installations on the specifications: –

 

i) for any repair or alteration to be made to the Installations or any extension thereof.

 

ii) of any new machinery, plant, equipment or appliance to be installed or used in the

 

Installations.

 

10. Act as secretary to the WSH committee established at the Installations under the Act and

 

assist the Chairman in planning and directing the functions of the WSH committee.

 

11. Co-operate with any doctor engaged to look after the health of the persons employed in the

 

respective Installations on all matters affecting the safety and health of those persons.

 

12. Take part in any inspection of the Installations carried out by the management thereof for the

 

purpose of assessing the efficacy of any measures taken in compliance with the WSH Act

 

and Fire Safety Act. The WSHO shall also conduct safety inspection with the WSH Inspection

 

Teams in the Installations and to compile safety inspection report after the inspection.

 

13. Keep the workplace records prescribed under the WSH Act
