Job Description

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

Day-to-day care and maintenance of the school green spaces (library planter, urban grow towers, Ecogarden, hydroponics system), including watering when required.

Provide knowledge input and advice relating to all aspects of the garden, including pruning, staking, feeding and spraying pesticides.

Regularly inspect school green spaces and undertake minor repairs, or advise the teacher-in-charge.

Monitor and maintain the health of all the plants in the school green spaces.

Address pest problems that could damage plants.

Trim and fertilize green spaces.

Mulch, edge and weed gardens.

Routine Inventory check and organising of stores

 

 

Secondary Task and Responsibilities:

CCA Support – Environmental Club

Assist the CCA teacher-in-class during sessions on germination, transplanting, and harvesting of vegetables.

Help guide students during lessons.

Assist in preparing materials and equipment for CCA lessons (once a week).

 

Primary 4 Project Work – Urban Farming

Assist the Project Work teacher-in-class during sessions on germination, transplanting, and harvesting of vegetables.

Help guide students during lessons.

Assist in preparing materials and equipment for Project Work Environmental Education lessons.

Manage pests in vegetables – check the vegetables and spray organic pesticide when necessary.

Maintain the general cleanliness of the urban farm by clearing soil to prevent blockage of the drainage system.

Monitor and maintain the health of seedlings during the germination stage and after students have replanted them.

Assist in seeding new batches of seeds or topping up the grow towers with seedlings if the original germination batches are insufficient.

 

Primary 5 Project Work – Hydroponics

Assist the Project Work teacher-in-class during sessions on germination, transplanting, and harvesting of vegetables.

Assist in preparing materials and equipment for Project Work Environmental Education lessons.

Check the germination progress of seeds sown by various classes.

Assist in seeding a new batch for germination if original germination does not work properly.

Top up water/nutrients and check the hydroponics system to ensure it is running properly.

Check plants for pest or fungal infestation and treat them appropriately.

Regularly place ice packs in the system to cool it down.
